STEAMHOUSE PARK

regeneration, restoration and incorporation into the city structure of the inter-RAILWAY area in katowice city centre

MASTER’S THESIS

Almost from the very beginning, the history of the city of Katowice has been linked to the mining industry and the associated rail transport. The area, once intensively exploited, is currently deteriorating and losing its potential after its closure in 2011.

The project is a significant challenge related to the development of a degraded area with historical value and with cultural potential. The aim of the project is to bring the excluded area back into public use.

This thesis additionally has the potential to become an answer to the current problems of Katowice's city centre, i.e. the lack of recreational and park areas, the problem of the transformation of post-industrial areas with a special focus on post-rail areas and the creation of a space for the promotion of young artists.
