WWF OBSERVATION CABINS

COMPETITION PROJECT

WWF Observation Cabins project is a concept for three cabins designed for observing the fauna and flora in the Orbetello Lagoon Nature Reserve on the Tuscan coast. The main idea is to merge two contrasting worlds – nature and humanity.

The human world, symbolized by sharp, geometric forms, represents order and control. In contrast, nature, wild and unpredictable, is expressed through soft, organic shapes. All the cabins combine these worlds, creating a harmonious space where humans and nature can coexist in balance.

The project emphasizes the need for harmonious coexistence and respect for nature, while providing a space for observation and reflection on the relationship between humans and the natural environment.

water

The designed cabin is partially submerged so that the observation window aligns perfectly with the water’s surface, offering a unique vantage point for observing aquatic birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. This positioning allows visitors to witness the interactions between the animals and their surroundings, creating an immersive and intimate connection with nature.

Inside the cabin, a circular seating arrangement, is designed as a tiered platform. The circular layout not only enhances the viewing experience but also encourages a communal atmosphere, allowing multiple visitors to share in the observation simultaneously. The design fosters a deeper sense of engagement, where the natural world can be appreciated from different perspectives

EARTH

This cabin offers an ideal opportunity to observe forest wildlife and bird nests, both at ground level and in the treetops. Its carefully chosen location allows visitors to seamlessly watch the daily lives of woodland creatures, from small mammals to birds building their nests.

Inside the cabin, a circular, open space is designed to face outward, acting as a natural acoustic tube. This unique form amplifies the sounds of the forest, such as the rustling of leaves, birdsong, and animal calls. It provides a perfect environment for contemplation and relaxation, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the subtle sounds of nature. The cabin serves not only as a space for observation but also as an invitation to reflect and connect deeply with the surrounding forest

AIR

The observation tower envisions a unique structure with a spiral ramp leading visitors to the top, allowing for 360-degree views at every level. The spiral ramp, an integral part of the tower, not only provides convenient access for everyone but also offers a gradual discovery of the surrounding landscape, including forests, fields, and water ecosystems.

Its design symbolizes the connection between humans and nature. The open structure allows the sounds and scents of the surrounding environment to flow inside, creating the sensation of being immersed in the landscape. At the top of the tower, a spacious viewing platform offers a full, panoramic view of the surrounding areas, providing a breathtaking and uninterrupted perspective of the forests, fields, and water bodies below
