MASTERPLAN OF ZABRZE NEW SPORT AND LEISURE DISTRICT
COMPETITION PROJECT - I PLACE
The main design objective was to create an attractive space for recreation and leisure. The entire KRS area is a valuable landscape area, whose total surface area of approximately 107 hectares makes it unique not only in Zabrze but also in the whole Upper Silesian Metropolis.
The main core of the concept is the design of a public park, a significant part of which is the golf course area. The golf course areas have been planned in such a way that they do not interfere with the park's other leisure and sports features. Such a solution makes it possible to keep the area fully biologically active and green, attractive to the inhabitants of Zabrze and other sport and recreation enthusiasts. At the same time, it makes it possible to keep the inner green wedge around the Mikulczycki stream with its green surroundings.
An important point in the concept is the creation of a water reservoir as a natural water regulator for the Mikulczycki stream It is intended to regulate the water level and allow water accumulation during periods of intense rainfall. The regulation of the water level will be possible thanks to the location of the culvert in the south-western part of the study. At the same time, it will be one of the higher points in the area to admire the surroundings.
The whole area has been designed to have formally important identifying places: two club buildings: a general sports building and a golf club, themed squares at the reservoir dam, meadows as well as themed squares in the centre of the establishment.
