ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE CONCEPT

COMPETITION PROJECT - II PLACE

The main idea is to create a vision of an attractive and modern site for the presentation of archaeological artefacts and a place for archaeologists to work. The historical context of the site, the traces of history beneath the surface and the present thematic links with the Zinc Works were considered to be the greatest value of the location.

The planned interventions, including the outline of the designed building, assume the least possible interference with the site and the existing greenery. The lump of the building is a interpretation of the ancient form of a smokestack, a group of rectangular smokestacks whose truncated pyramidal roofs resemble the chimneys so characteristic of the Silesian landscape.

Traditionally, the chimneys served as extraction chimneys, but in our building skylights have been located at their end to allow interior lighting.

The development of the site involves the paving and resurfacing of the car park, the creation of a small paved area behind the building, a footbridge leading over the peat bog and two loops of paths, the first a gravel path running on the ground and the second suggested by laying down materials located on the ground which leads to the last surviving section of the dune.
